Google + and I: Love at first sight
Hi there,
Google+ is still in beta, it is still with limited access and it is still a mystery to many. But, I have been using it for a while now and I totally love it! It was a bit confusing in the beginning, but I liked it from first sight and I haven’t been disappointed so far.
When I first entered G+, it looked nice, like a better-looking facebook with some extras and in exchange without adds or sponsored messages. Everyone started writing blog posts abouthow to use G+, why G+ is great for photographers, why this and why that. I merely looked at those articles but experimented with all those buttons in G+ and found out for myself, why G+ is great.
So, what is G+?
At G+ you follow people by ordering them into circles to read what they write, you post updates and share links, images and articles. In short: G+ is a mixture between facebook, twitter, and skype.
The site looks a bit like facebook and you have a stream with all the updates from those you encircled. But the gorgeous thing is that you don’t have to befriend anyone – they just follow you and you follow whom you like. This makes things much easier. The thing with following reminds me of twitter. In addition there is a nice little thing called “hang-outs”, video chats, but with more than one person at a time, a bit like skyping.
Why I love G+?
I started writing in English when I registered to G+. It felt the right thing to do – I didn’t want another site to organize in two languages. And I now know it’s been the right decision! G+ for me is really international. I started following interesting photographers from all over the world and as they were able to read my updates, some of them followed back and soon came the time, when people started following me, I hadn’t followed before (apart from those German followers, who knew me from my blog).
So, I do love that there are people from all over the world!
Another thing is the creativity! I found it much easier to find interesting people at G* than on facebook and my stream is full of interesting, creative stuff and I could totally dig G+ all the time.
In addition, G+ looks good, works better than facebook and it’s still beta, so if there is something wrong, one can give feedback and Google really seems to care for what users want.
G+ as a photographer
In contrast to those of facebook, the terms of conditions are much kinder for photographers. Uploading is easy via drag and drop and once uploaded, they look really good! G+ really did a good job when thinking about design, usability and such stuff!
Want to give it a try, too?
Just follow this link: Google+ (there are only 150 invites, so if you can’t register, just ask someone else for an invitation)
Have your tried G+? What do you think of it?
If you want to, just feel free to encircle me on G+!
Love, Kate
